Matching touring boots and bindings

Touring bindings let your heels lift for the climb, then secure them for the descent. Touring boots have a walk mode that allows greater freedom of movement on the uphill. Before completing your setup, check compatibility between the specific boots and bindings you’re considering. A walk mode alone doesn’t make a boot compatible with every touring binding.

Choosing climbing skins

Climbing skins provide grip for the ascent. Their length, width and attachments need to suit your skis. Some come precut for specific ski models; others require trimming. A touring backpack gives you space for extra layers and the equipment you plan to carry.
